COVINGTON, VA –  In the circle on Thursday, Kayla Bartley was nearly perfect for Covington in the teams 17-0 five-inning Pioneer District tournament semifinal over the Easter Montgomery Mustangs.

Bartley, who has pitched dominantly all season long, continued in the district’s semifinal for Covington. After giving up a walk and a hit in the first inning, Bartley settled down by retiring the next 14 batters of the game. In her complete-game victory, Bartley struck out nine batters.

While Covington pushed across four runs in the first inning, they erupted in the third inning scoring eight runs. It was a hit-parade for the offense as everyone in the team’s lineup had at least one hit.

Covington’s Addison Morris and Breanna Reynolds led the team with two hits apiece, while Morris led all batters with a four RBI performance. Serenity Campbell who had one hit, also drove in three RBI’s. Lexi Dressler and Kayleah each added two RBI’s.

On Monday Covington hosted their district rival Parry McCluer Fighting Blues in the district tournament championship at the Jackson River Sports Complex. The Fighting Blues defeated Craig County 9-2 in the tournament’s other semi-final.

Covington and Parry McCluer split their regular season series 1-1.
