RADFORD, VA – On Thursday evening, the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers rallied from a one run deficit in the top of the seventh inning to stun the Radford Lady Bobcats 8-7 in a Three Rivers District softball game.

After Alleghany’s Bryce Leitch walked to lead-off the top of the seventh inning, Radford’s Quinn Burton settled down to get her next two batters out. Facing their last out and down a run, Kelsey Nicely brought in Leitch to score the tying run on an RBI single. Nicely would advance to second base on a fielding error committed by the Bobcats.

With the score now tied and a chance to retake the lead, Kelsey Nicely came scored the go-ahead run on an RBI single from Abbie Fridley who had ripped a line drive single into right field.

Now with a one run lead, Alleghany’s Savannah Cash went out into the circle and locked down the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the comeback win for the Mounties. Cash did give up a one-out hit in the inning, but settled down as she recorded the final two outs to end the game. Cash finished the game giving up two runs (one earned), on three hits, one walk, and two strikeouts over three innings in the circle.

Alleghany jumped out to a 6-0 lead after 4 1/2 innings which was highlighted by Kaylee Nicely’s two-run home run in the top of the first inning. Radford would cut the deficit to one run following a five-run fourth inning. Kathryn Price delivered her only hit of the game in the five-run fourth as brought in two runs on a two-run double.

Following their five-run fourth inning, Radford would score a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings before Alleghany’s seventh inning rally.

Kendell Keene and Emma Skidmore led Alleghany with two hits apiece, while Kaylee Nicely, and Abbie Fridley led the team in RBIs with two each. Meanwhile, Keene, who started in the circle for the Mountaineers finished with a no-decision as gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits in four innings. Keene did not allow a walk and struck out five.

Alleghany swept it’s two-game regular season series with Radford.
