ELLISTON, VA – It was a hit-parade for the Covington Lady Cougars (9-8/5-1) last Thursday in their 20-2 Pioneer District victory over the Eastern Montgomery Lady Mustangs (7-10/3-5).

The Cougars were backed by 23 hits from their offense that helped push across their 20 runs scored. The Cougars offense had five players in the lineup that had three or more hits at the plate.

The offensive-attack was centered around sophomore’s Tyra Rose, Addison Morris, and Serenity Campbell as they each had three RBI’s. Rose and Morris each had three hits at the plate. Meanwhile, junior Kayla Bartley, and the lone senior on the team, Gabby Marshall each had a four-hit performance. Bartley added two RBI’s as well. Sophomore Brooklyn Hicks also had a three-hit performance at the plate as well as two RBI’s.

Meanwhile, in the circle, Bartley picked up her ninth win of the season as gave up two unearned runs on three hits, while striking out nine in a five-inning complete game that ended early due to the 12-run VHSL rule.

Allison Bower provided the Mustangs with their only RBI which came on a fielder’s choice groundout that pushed across the teams second run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Mackenzie Hubbard, Caiden Roupe, and Kelly Mills each had singles. Mary Miller took the loss for the Mustangs after giving up 16 runs (14 earned) on 17 hits in 3.1 innings in the circle. Miller gave up two walks and struck out a pair.

The Cougars, who ended a three-game losing streak, will wrap up their regular season with a trip to Narrows on Tuesday to visit the Green Wave in a big district meeting.
