COVINGTON, VA – The Alleghany-Covington chapter in sports is over.

Last Thursday, the two schools separated by just miles played their final athletic game against one another.

This Fall, the two schools will become one.

               However, bragging rights last forever.

On this night, forever belonged to the Lady Mountaineers.

For the 75th and final time on the softball diamond, the storybook rivalry has concluded following the Lady Mountaineers 9-6 victory over the Lady Cougars.

The game itself was nothing short than exciting.

Both teams traded leads. After the Lady Cougars took a two run lead in the first inning, the Lady Mountaineers answered right back in the top half of the second inning as  Savannah Cash (1-for-4) belted her only hit of the game over the fence in left field for a solo home run.

With the score tied 3-3, Kinsey Middleton (1-for-4) broke the tie with a two-run single in in the fifth inning. Two batters later Kalin Rice (2-for-4) put the team ahead three runs with an RBI single.

The three run lead would enough for the Lady Mountaineers to hang onto.

Rice and Emma Skidmore (2-for-4) led the team with two hits each. Kendell Keene W/0-for-2) was the winning pitcher..

Gabby Marshall and Serenity Campbell led the Lady Cougars with two hits each, while Marshall and Lexi Dresser each had Rey two RBI’s. Kayla Bartley (L/0-2) suffered the loss).
