Mountaineer tennis team splits pair of matches

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Last week, the Alleghany Mountaineers tennis team shutout Buffalo Gap 9-0, then three days later lost a tough overall battle to Carroll County by a count of 5-4. Alleghany is now 9-2 overall and 1-2 in the Three Rivers District.

The results were as follows:

vs. Buffalo Gap

Singles:

Eli Entsminger won by forfeit.

Andrew Cole def. Kaden Lyle 8-3

Gavin Via def. Andrew Rathburn 8-1

Chase DePriest def. Aidan Starcher 8-0

Davien Moore def. Connor Swisher 8-5

Casey Simmons def. Jaxon Fix 8-3

Doubles:

Entsminger and Maddox Crance won 8-1

Cole and Via won 8-5

DePriest and Bryce Crawford won 8-1

vs. Carroll County

Singles:

Jabin Talley def. Entsminger 8-1

Ethan Richardson def. Crawford 8-0

Juan Cole def. Mario Campbell 8-5

DePriest def. Paul Marshall 8-6

Justice Bowden def. Via 9-7

Moore def. Maverick Baker 8-6

Doubles:

Entsminger and Crawford lost 8-1

Cole and Via lost 8-6

DePriest and Moore won 8-0

“It was good to get a win against Gap. Our guys were shorthanded at Carroll,” coach Seth Davis said. “They fought back after being down 1-4, and almost pulled it off. We need to clean stuff up in practice and get better.”
