FLOYD, Va. – Unhittable! That’s the best way to describe Monday evening.

To be more specific, Hunter DePriest (W/0-for-3) was unhittable.

The right-hander pitched a no-hitter in the Mountaineers 1-0 victory on the road against Three Rivers District opponent the Floyd County Buffaloes. DePriest allowed two total baserunners as he hit a batter and walked one. Besides that, the Buffaloes could not touch him, as they struck out 12 times to DePriest. DePriest retired his first 11 batters he faced.

On a day where the offense struggled at the plate, combining for a 4-for-25 performance, the team needed the job DePriest put together.

DePriest though while the no-hitting winning pitcher on the game was also the one who scored the game’s lone run. After five scoreless innings, DePriest reached first base on a one-out fielding error by the Buffaloes shortstop Duncan Slaughter (0-for-2).

With Kole Caldwell (1-for-2) due up next at the plate, DePriest stole second and to put himself in scoring position. On an 0-2 pitch, Caldwell ripped the ball to centerfield which brought home DePriest to score the games first and only run.

After getting the first two batters out in the seventh, DePriest struck out Joshua Keith to end the game.

It’s the second no-hitter in the area. Covington’s Landon Arritt had one less than two weeks ago.

The Mountaineers will look to continue their unbeaten reign on Wednesday when they travel to Salem to face district opponent Glenvar at 5 p.m.
