Bath Co. Beats Covington in High Scoring Contest

HOT SPRINGS – It was a busy day on the diamond in Pioneer District action as a total of 28 runs were scored in the Covington Cougars (2-5)-Bath County Chargers (1-3) game on Wednesday evening. In one of the last times the two schools will meet, the Chargers prevailed this time around with a 17-11 victory as the team picked up their first win.

 Despite giving up 17 runs, the Cougars held the Chargers to seven hits. However, errors and walks came back to hurt the Cougars in this one as the team totaled 10 errors in the loss and 11 walks. 

 After taking a 10-4 lead following two five-run scoring innings in the top of the second and fourth innings, seven walks, and two errors led to an eight-run bottom fourth for the Chargers which put them up 12-10. 

 The Chargers wouldn’t look back and would put up a four-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to take control of the game for good.

 Hunter Ryder (3-for-4) led all batters with a three-hit day, including four RBI’s for the Chargers. Ethan Persinger (0-for-3) did not collect a hit but did have RBI’s. Meanwhile, Cooper Lowry (1-for-4), and Isaac Ingram (W/1-for-4) each added two RBI’s. Ingram, who came out of the bullpen to the win. Ingram allowed six runs (one earned) in 4.1 innings where he also walked three and struck out three.

 Hayden Rodgers (1-for-4) had a big day with a four RBI performance for the visiting Cougars. Dylan Williams (1-for-2) added two RBI’s, while Luke Conner (2-for-5) had a solo home run. Garrett Carper (L/0-for-0) suffered the loss after allowing 11 runs (seven earned) in just 0.2 innings.

 The Cougars back on the diamond on Thursday as they play Alleghany for the final time. Meanwhile, the Chargers
