LEWISBURG, WVA – A five-run fifth inning was all the difference the Alleghany Mountaineers (6-0) needed to remain unbeaten on the season as they cruised to a 12-2 victory over the Greenbrier East Spartans on Tuesday.
Halen Lowman (W) notched his third win of the season following a seven-strikeout performance. The lefty went four innings where he gave up two unearned runs on just three hits, while walking three.
Hunter DePriest (S/2-for-3) had a big day as well on both sides of the diamond. Not only did DePriest have a two extra base-hit (double and triple) day at the plate along with a three RBI’s, he also picked up the save in relief of Lowman. DePriest was perfect in three innings as he did not allow a hit or walk a batter, and also struck out six batters.
Garrett Via (1-for-2) had a pair of RBI’s for the Mountaineers.
Eli Green (2-for-3) led the Spartan with two of the team’s three hits. Henry Goodwin (L/0-for-2) suffered the loss after allowing six runs in 2.2 innings.
Defensively both teams combined for nine errors. The Spartans scored both of their runs in the third inning off of an error and a wild pitch.
