LEXINGTON, VA – The Covington Lady Cougars (3-2) picked up their third straight win last Thursday following an 11-3 road victory over the Parry McCluer Lady Fighting Blues.

As the Lady Cougars kicked off their Pioneer District schedule with a win, Kayla Bartley (W/2-for-3) was once again sensational on the mound as she picked up the win after an eight-strikeout performance. She helped her own cause at the plate offensively with a two-hit day along with an RBI.

Laken Cantrell (2-for-5), Brooklyn Hicks (3-for-4), and Kayleah Jones (1-for-2) each led the Lady Cougars with two RBIs each. Hicks, and Gabby Marshall (3-for-4) were the only batters in the game with three hits apiece.

The Lady Cougars finished with 17 hits total in the win.

The Lady Fighting Blues had five batters with one hit each. Autumn Mundy (1-for-2), Olivia Julian (1-for-3), and Claudia Coleman (L/1-for-3) each had RBIs for the team. Coleman took the loss after surrendering 11 runs on 17 hits over five innings where she also walked five batters, but also struck out five as well.

The Lady Cougars were on the diamond on Monday against the Roanoke Catholic Celtics, that story will be in our Friday edition and their game this week at Alleghany has been moved to April 27th.
