COVINGTON, VA – The Covington Lady Cougars (2-2) picked up their second straight victory following a dominant performance on the mound from Kayla Bartley (W/1-for-2) where she struck out 10 batters in a Lady Cougars 12-1 victory over the James Monroe, W.Va Mavericks Tuesday evening at the Jackson River Sports Complex.

It was Bartley’s best performance on the mound thus far into this early season for the Lady Cougars. Along with the 10-strikeout performance, Bartley surrendered just one run on three hits, and did not walk a batter over five innings of work. Bartley also provided the offense with three RBI’s coming off of one swing, a three-run home run which was part of an eight-run third inning for the Lady Cougars.

Lexi Dressler (2-for-3) also provided the Lady Cougars with a three RBI performance, while Laken Cantrell (2-for-2) added two RBI’s. The Lady Cougars finished with 11 hits in the win.

Jadyn Bradley (1-for-2) provided the lone Lady Mavericks RBI. Bryleigh Thomas (L/0-for-2) suffered the loss after giving up eight runs (seven earned) on five hits, while walking five in just 2.1 innings.

The Lady Cougars, who are now playing .500 softball, will look to keep their win streak going on Thursday when the team begins Pioneer District play with a trip to Buena Vista as they meet up with Parry McCluer.
