WYTHEVILLE, Va. (TVR) – The Covington Lady Cougars’ (3-22) season came to an end on Tuesday night following a 70-22 loss in the first-round of the Class 1, Region C tournament to the George Wythe Lady Maroons (19-5).

More than just the loss ending the season for the girls’ team, it was also the final played Lady Cougars basketball game in school history.

It was another sensational performance from Lauren Bragg who recorded her 16th double-double performance of the season, as she scored a team-high 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Bragg capped off her senior season finishing with 341 points in 25 games.

Despite having great defensive stops throughout the game and executing tipped passes from the Lady Cougars, Tuesday night belonged to the Lady Maroons who took a commanding lead following a 24-point first quarter in which they held the Lady Cougars scoreless.

The Lady Maroons, backed by Jordan Cannoy’s game-high 19 points, jumped out to a 37-0 lead in the second quarter.

With 4:22 left to go in the first half, Tyra Rose dropped in the first points of the game with her short-range field goal.

The Cougars would go on to score 9 points in the second quarter and were down 46-9 by the end of the first half. Makaylan Luttrell knocked down a buzzer-beating mid-range jump shot to close out the half for the Lady Maroons.

Along with Cannoy, Abbigail Berry was the other Lady Maroon in double figures scoring, as she added 11.
