On the road this past Friday, the Mountain Gateway Lady Roadrunners (7-11) used a big fourth quarter to defeat the Northern Virginia Lady Nighthawks 72-62.

With the score tied 45-45 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Roadrunners outscored the Lady Nighthawks 27-17.

Julie Agee paced the Lady Roadrunners with a game-high 23 points. Cristi Persinger scored 19 while knocking down four of the teams five made three-pointers. Persinger nearly pulled off a quadruple-double. Persinger finished with nine rebounds, seven assists, and eight steals. Meanwhile, Brooke Davis had a double-double performance with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Lady Nighthawks were led by Latasha Settles who scored a team-high 20 points off of the bench. Venus Hill scored 15, while Maria Richter added 12.

Free-throw shooting proved to be a critical point in the game. The Lady Roadrunners only shot 47.8% from the free-throw line, but they knocked down 11-of-23 attempts, while the Lady Nighthawks only attempted four total free-throws in which they made two of their four attempts.

The Lady Roadrunners have now won two in a row and will host Southern Virginia’s JV team this evening at 6:00 p.m.
