Teddy Bear Donations to Be Collected at Saturday’s Game

COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — The Covington VA250 Celebration opened Thursday evening at the Jackson River Sports Complex. Crowds began lining up before gates opened at 6 p.m. and quickly filled the midway. Rides provided by Coles Amusements drew steady lines throughout the evening, while food vendors served a variety of fair favorites.
The celebration continues Friday and Saturday. Gates open at 6 p.m. each day and admission is free. Ride tickets are available for purchase on site. The event concludes Saturday night with a fireworks show. Photo: Christopher Mentz, VR

Lady Buffaloes Rally Past Lady Mounties

It was less than three weeks ago that the Floyd County Lady Buffaloes (13-4, 6-1) had cruised to a 35 point victory at Mountaineer Arena over the Alleghany Lady Mountaineers (10-6, 3-4), 57-22.

On Tuesday in the rematch, there was no blowout victory.

Needing a fourth quarter comeback on Tuesday, the Lady Buffaloes rallied from a six point deficit heading into the final period to defeat the Lady Mountaineers 47-44 in a big Three Rivers District matchup.

Destiny Harmon paced the Lady Buffaloes comeback with a team-high 14 points, while Kiley Hylton had 10.

The Lady Mountaineers were led by Kendell Keene who also had a team-high 14 points, along with four three-pointers. 

The Lady Mountaineers were held to just five points in the fourth quarter.

With the win, the Lady Buffaloes swept the season series with the Lady Mountaineers. 

In another big district matchup, last night the Lady Mountaineers were on the road against the Glenvar Lady Highlanders.

Last Friday, the Lady Mountaineers defended homecourt at Mountaineer Arena by defeating the Radford Lady Bobcats 63-20 in a district matchup.

Cash paced the Lady Mountaineers with a game-high 16 points. Meanwhile, Keene added 15, and Bryce Leitch put together a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Mountaineers had two big first half scoring runs that set the tone for the entire game. 

To open the game, the Lady Mountaineers went on a 15-0 scoring run, while holding the Lady Bobcats scoreless for the first seven minutes. 

Then in the second quarter, the Lady Mountaineers would end the first half scoring the final nine points to build a 30 point lead. 

Claire Fender led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with six points.

The Lady Mountaineers swept the season series with the Lady Bobcats. On January 4th, the Lady Mountaineers were victorious on the road against the Lady Bobcats 52-28.
