The Town of Clifton Forge has released a survey to gather public input concerning the future development of the Jefferson School that served the Black community from 1926-1965.

Surveys have been distributed to news media, and the printed survey published in today’s “Virginian Review” can be clipped out, filled out and mailed to The Town of Clifton Forge, P.O. Box 631, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

The Town has mailed surveys to residents, and citizens may visit the Town of Clifton Forge’s “Facebook” page and website to access the survey.

Also, the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation and Clifton Forge Main Street are assisting the Town in making the surveys available. Citizens may visit their websites to gain access.

According to Ben Nicely, the newest member of the Clifton Forge Town Council, the purpose of the survey is to gather ideas from the public concerning the best use of the property moving forward.

Clifton Forge Town Manager Charles “Chuck” Unroe, the former mayor of Iron Gate, has requested that “Virginian Review” assist the Town in gathering data that the survey will provide.

The collected data will assist the Clifton Forge Town Council in determining the best way to move forward in utilizing the building and property that will best serve the citizens of Clifton Forge.

Jefferson/East Elementary School Feasibility Survey

The Town of Clifton Forge recently received a Community Impact Grant to conduct a feasibility study for the Jefferson/East Elementary School.

This study is intended to engage with community stakeholders to identify what they would like to see this building used for, then develop a concept for the building’s reuse based on this input. This concept, once developed, will be shared with the community and used to attract potential developers for the project.

We would like to hear from you on what you envision for this important building in our community. This survey should take you 5-10 minutes to complete. Thank you for your time and input!
