How a week makes all the difference.
Last Monday, the Buffalo Gap Bison (5-1) defeated the Alleghany Mountaineers (2-1) 77-68.
A week later, the Mountaineers avenge their defeat in Swoope, but knocking off the unbeaten Bison 68-59 at Mountaineer Arena on Monday night.
The Mountaineers never let the Bison grab a lead at any point in the game as the Mountaineers controlled the game throughout.
Right from the tip, this was the Mountaineers game to win as they jumped out of the gate leading 7-0 and never looked back.
As time winded down in the second quarter, the Mountaineers built a first half lead to 11 points following a Davien Moore three-point play with seconds remaining in the first half.
In the third quarter the Mountaineers extended their lead to as high as 15 points.
The Mountaineers were led by Moore and Xzavier Hayslett, whom each scored 13 points.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Bison who trailed by double digits made things a bit interesting as they closed the gap to six points with just minutes remaining, however the Mountaineers knocked down their free throws to hold off the Bison for the win.
Following his 32-point effort last week against the Mountaineers, Bennett Bowers was held to just 13 points as he was pressured all game long. Micah Canterbury scored a game-high 18 points in the loss for the Bison.
After taking a five-point lead into the second quarter, the Mountaineers would build the lead up to double digits.
The Mountaineers led 30-19 after the first two quarters.
In the third quarter both teams went back and forth scoring which did not bold well for the visitors as they did not mange to cut into their deficit as the Bison went into the fourth quarter trailing by the same points they did going into the second half.
