On Thurs, Nov. 17, Mayor Charles W. Unroe informed the Iron Gate Town Council that the regular garbage pickup day that falls on Thanksgiving Day has been rescheduled for Wed., Nov. 23.
There was no old business to discuss, and Unroe congratulated Gary Craig for becoming mayor-elect. He noted that Craig will continue to serve as a member of the Iron Gate Town Council through Dec. 31, and he reminded Council that a 45-day window would follow for someone to fill Craig’s place on Council
Unroe read aloud Craig’s letter of resignation from the Iron Gate Town Council and praised Craig for the work he has done while on Council.
He also congratulated those members of Council who ran unopposed and were elected to four year terms.
Council rendered 7-0 votes to approve the minutes for the regular Council meeting on Oct. 27 and to approve the payment of its bills.
Officer Chris Fisher gave the invocation and led in the “Pledge of Allegiance,” and he was called on by Unroe to provide an update on Christmas plans, including the Sat., Dec. 10, Christmas parade, “A Willy Wonka Christmas.”
Two Christmas dinners will be served at the Iron Gate Fire Department, one on Sat., Dec. 17, at 7:00 p.m. following the social that has been set to begin at 6:00 p.m. and one on Mon., Dec. 19 at 6:00 p.m.
The Iron Gate Town Council meeting was the shortest of the year, lasting only 16 minutes.
Besides members of the media, those present were as follows: Unroe, Craig, Fisher, Jared Jenkins, town attorney; Mikki Curtis, councilwoman; Richard Erskine, vice-mayor; Kawahna Persinger, councilwoman; Debbie Harris, councilwoman; Jennifer Tyree, councilwoman; and Windy Biggs, secretary.
Also, Unroe noted that the DEQ application for sewer collection services has been filed prior to the deadline.
He remarked, “I feel very confident that this will be the boost we need.”
Providing funding is made available via the grant proposal being approved, an overhaul of the Town of Iron Gate’s underground pipes that form its sewage system will be made possible at an affordable cost to the Town.
