Covington, Va. (VR) – The Covington mill will begin a planned maintenance outage the morning of October 1. Work will be done in the Woodyard October 3-13; Unbleached Pulp Mill and Bleach Room from October 2-12; and Recovery from October 1-22. The paper machines will be down at various times throughout this outage for maintenance.

On Saturday October 1, Recovery will have an outage on No. 1 Recovery Boiler (1RU), No. 2 Lime Kiln, and No. 2 Evaporator, and the Waste Heat Evaporator. We will take 2RU and No. 2 Lime Kiln down for cleaning. There will be the possibility of high noise levels and odors at times from October 1 at 6 a.m. through October 10 at 6 a.m.

There is a possibility of high noise levels and odors from Saturday, October 1 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, October 2 at 6 a.m. due to 1RU and No. 2 Lime Kiln going offline.

On October 3, we will have a full blow break during which we will take the Waste Heat Evaporator down. There will be the possibility of high noise levels periodically from approximately October 3 at 7 a.m. to October 6 at 7 a.m. when the system comes back online.

On October 10, 1RU will be started up and there is the possibility of high noise levels periodically from Sunday, October 9 at 7 a.m. to Monday, October 10 at 7 a.m.

We will work to minimize noise / odor to the community during this outage. While work is being performed, equipment will be shut down and brought back online at different intervals for maintenance. There is a possibility that steam pop-offs could occur as equipment is shut down and brought back online.

If you have any concerns, please contact Public Affairs at 969-5596. If you do not get an answer, please leave a message.

There will be a number of contractor employees working in the mill during the outage. At the peak of the outage, there will be approximately 500 contract employees working in the mill. Please be aware of extra traffic around the mill, the WestRock parking lots, and entrance / exit gates during the outage period, especially around 5 to 7 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
