Devices For Car Headlights
The following automobile and motorcycle headlight devices have been approved by representatives of the ten Eastern states as complying with uniform headlight law recently passed by the Virginia Legislature. The Secretary of the Commonwealth will approve these devices on their submission to the office for a test that they will conform with the Virginia law: A-Automobile Sizes:

Rites Tomorrow From Emmanuel For Mrs. Leitch
Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie Isabelle Leitch, wife of Mr. Preston T. Leitch who died suddenly at her home on Riverside Street Friday morning will be held from Emmanuel Episcopal Church of which she was a member at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. Pallbearers will be R.O. Heironimus, C.L. Fifer, K.L. Moyer, Sandy Anderson, P.J. Dolan and Dwight Link.

Tingler Elected Chairman Of Covington School Board
At last night’s reorganizational meeting of the Covington School Board Norwood Tingler was elected board chairman for 1962-63 and Ralph Stettner was elected vice chairman. Mrs. Charlotte Wright was reelected chairman of the board. On a motion of board member Jack Peterson the board passed a resolution praising outgoing chairman A.L. Blankenship for his service.

Beirne Elected VPA President
Horton P. Beirne, general manager of the Covington Virginian, today became the third member of his family to serve as president of the Virginia Press Association. Beirne was elected at the VPA’s 105th annual meeting to succeed William C. O’Donovan, editor and publisher of the Virginia Gazette of Williamsburg. Beirne is the son of Richard F. Beirne III, publisher of the Covington Virginian and VPA’s president in 1970. His great-grandfather, Richard F. Beirne Sr., was president in 1883.

Wednesday Protest
Local construction workers protest on Magazine Street in Covington this morning outside the MeadWestvaco biomass boiler construction site. The protestors claim that not enough local workers are being used in the boiler construction. Approximately 30 protesters picketed on North Magazine and on Alleghany Avenue this morning.
