Poised to graduate from Virginia Tech during the spring of 2023, Anthony “A.J.” Moses, a 2019 graduate of Alleghany High School, continues to excel in and out of the classroom.

Eight days before he walked across the stage at AHS to receive his diploma after delivering his speech as valedictorian, he had received his degree through the Early College Scholar program at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (renamed Mountain Gateway Community College on July 1) where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with at GPA of 3.79.

At Virginia Tech, he has established his academic excellence by compiling a 3.70 GPA overall and a 3.82 GPA in his major field of study.

Currently, he is enjoying his internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Richmond, Va. as a digital assurance and transparency intern. Last year, he was a Start Intern virtually collaborating with other interns in the Skills for Society Project, a program designed to help non-profit organizations make decisions using data analytics.

Having completed the first of his two-month internship, he has gained experience by learning about different services in the audit and assurance services, especially in digital assurance and transparency by shadowing under Associates to Partners.

A.J. noted that the experience he has gained during his internship has enabled him to increase his insight that has helped him develop his professional growth and his personal brand while learning a variety of skills in data manipulation, data visualization and automation.

Born in Bluefield, W. Va., on Dec. 20, 2000, A.J., as he goes by, lives in Valley Ridge with his parents, Vince Moses and Kim Moses.

His father and mother moved to Covington after Vince had worked as a K-Mart manager before becoming a co-manager for Wal*Mart.

Kim is employed by Highlands Community Bank in Covington where she serves as customer service officer-assistant compliance officer.

After arriving in Covington as co-manager of Wal*Mart, Vince was promoted to manager. He retired in 2011.

A.J. has two grown siblings, Vincent Moses, Jr., 35; and Kristen Moses, 32.

During the spring semester at Virginia Tech, A.J. earned a 4.0 GPA, and he continues to serve as a DJ at WUVT FM 90.7.

He said, “I play a variety of music in different genres, but I favor rap and R & B.”

A.J. enjoys listening to music, and one of his hobbies is collecting vinyl records.

As for his plans after graduation from Virginia Tech, A.J. revealed, “After two more semesters, I will graduate next spring, and I’m thinking about moving to a city like Richmond.”

He continued, “I’m super excited to have this opportunity (serving as an intern at PricewaterhouseCoopers) to start my professional career.”

In addition to the experience he is gaining as a DJ, A.J. noted, “Between 2021 and 2022, I was social media chair for PUMP.”

PUMP is the acronym for Pamplin Undergraduate Mentorship Program at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.

A.J. remarked, “During the pandemic, there was a need for students to get acclimated to college, and I helped as a mentor.”

He has been chosen to serve as the president of PUMP during the 2022-2023 semesters, and in 2021-2022, A.J. served as marketing chair for Power at Virginia Tech Leadership Team as well as the social media chair for PUMP.

As a high school student at AHS, A.J. was an active member of the Key Club and Beta Club, and he was a member of the JV soccer team during his sophomore year.

A.J. graduated from AHS with a GPA of 4.38, and he received a Presidential Scholarship Initiative for Virginia Tech.

At Mountain Gateway Community College he made President’s List for the spring and fall of 2018 and the spring of 2019.

At Virginia Tech he was on the Dean’s List for the fall of 2020, the spring of 2021 and the fall of 2021.

As for his goal after graduating from Virginia Tech, A.J. concluded, “I want to work in a tech related field or IT field.”

After he finishes his internship, he will have a short break before the fall semester at Virginia Tech begins, time to pursue his hobbies: playing video games, hiking and making rugs.
