It seems long ago that the Covington Lumberjacks (5-10) started off the 2022 Valley Baseball League season by winning their first three games.

Since that 3-0 start, the team has lost 10 of their last 12 games following back to back losses on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday, the Lumberjacks fell to 1-6 in home games at Casey Field after falling to the Waynesboro Generals (10-7) 7-3. The win over the Lumberjacks pushed the Generals record to 4-0 against them so far this season.

The Generals jumped on the Lumberjacks in the first two innings by pushing five runs across the scoreboard to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Lumberjacks managed to score three runs, but the five-run early deficit was enough to put the team away in the teams fourth meeting this season.

John Schroeder (1-for-4) and Victor Rodriguez (1-for-3) provided the Lumberjacks offense with each collecting an RBI. It was Schroeder’s first RBI this season and Rodriguez’s second.

After Schroeder and Rodriguez, the Lumberjacks offense struggled at the plate as the team struck out 15 times. The Lumberjacks had six players strike out at least two times in the loss on Wednesday.

The Generals put up 12 hits on the scoreboard as five players finished with a multiple-hit performance. Leading the way for the Generals was Edrick Felix (1-for-3) who on his only hit belted a first inning three-run home run. It was Felix’s second home run of the season. His first home run came the day before on Tuesday against the Charlottesville TomSox.
