Alleghany Girls Tennis Senior Night

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. - Roanoke Gas Company will conduct a planned, controlled gas flare near Tinker Mountain Road, beginning Monday, May 4. The flaring is required to properly inspect a portion of the natural gas system. You may notice a flame near I-81 MM 149 this week.

School Board Approves Personnel Changes

LOW MOOR — The Alleghany County School Board, during a meeting Monday at Mountain View Elementary School, approved several personnel changes.

Appointments include Elsie M. Caruthers, part-time cafeteria worker at Clifton Middle School/Mountain View Elementary School, Cherie L. Hicks, teacher assistant at Mountain View Elementary School; Karen R. Willis, administrative assistant to the superintendent and clerk of the school board; Amanda H. DeSilvey, Dora M. Saville and Laura L. Sartain, substitute teachers.

In extra-curricular appointments at Alleghany High School, the board approved Olivia G. Sizemore as spring drama assistant coach; Leonard L. Phillips, varsity softball head coach; Seth I. Bradley, head baseball coach. At Clifton Middle School, Nathaniel A. Rusmisel was approved as a volunteer wrestling coach and Laura Whitmer was named a volunteer girls basketball coach.

The school board accepted the resignation of Charles D. Leitch as head track coach at Clifton Middle School.

The school board accepted the resignation of Alexis R. Sparks, a teacher at Mountain View Elementary School, effective Nov. 11; Sharon N. Rice, teacher assistant at Alleghany High School, effective Nov. 22; Donna L. Harris, school/nurse manager at Callaghan Elementary School, effective Dec. 10.
