It hasn’t been an easy last few weeks for the Alleghany Mountaineers varsity volleyball team.

On Monday, the team dropped its fifth straight after being shutout in three sets by the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs.

The defense for the Mountaineers was a problem in the loss.

“The biggest adjustment (going forward) will be our defense. We need to play defense before we start playing offense” said Head Coach, Hannah Bradley.

After dropping the first set 25-13, the Mountaineers had an uphill battle to climb in their second set.

Quickly, the Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Before you knew it, the Mountaineers were down 17-4 and eventually lost the set 25-7.

The second set loss is certainly one coach Bradley will be talking about to her team with needing to adjust going forward and especially for the teams next game today at Parry McCluer.

In the loss, Laken Wilhelm led the way for team with four kills and two aces.

Kailin Rice led the team with nine digs and also had one kill.

Meanwhile Erin Harden chipped in with three kills and three digs.
