Alice Grey VanDevander Townsend Welsch, age 94, of 800 W. Ridgeway Street, Apt 101, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor.
Alice was born September 10, 1926 in Arbovale, West Virginia to the late William and Grosa Warner VanDevander. She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Covington. She loved to travel with her husband.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest T. Townsend; her second husband, Ronald Welsch; three brothers, Eugene VanDevander, Woodrow VanDevander, and Billy VanDevander; and two sisters, Virginia Myers and Ona Townsend.
She is survived by her sons, Ernest H. Townsend and wife Dot of Millboro, and James A. Townsend of Martinsburg, WV; a grandson, Ernest Todd Townsend and wife Crystal, and two great granddaughters, Bryanna Dean and Lauren Marie Townsend, all of Harrisonburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, PO Box 419, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
