Covington Lumberjacks infielder (INF), Nathan Becker, recently earned 2021 All-Conference USA Baseball honors as a freshman at Rice University.
The 6 foot 2 inch, left-handed slugger from Texas, entered his freshman season with the Rice Owls as the third ranked first basemen (1B) in Texas and one of the top 30 ranked 1B in the nation.
The Owls are a NCAA Division 1 program.
In 22 league games (Conference USA), Becker had a batting average of .296 and led the team in slugging percentage at .592.
He also contributed 19 runs batted in (RBI) in those 22 league games.
Becker’s best offensive game of the season came in 7-0 win against The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He had a season high three hits in four at bats (3-4), a homerun and two RBI’s.
On the season, Becker had six home runs total.
For the most part of the season for the Owls, Becker was the teams primary designated hitter (DH). He played a few games at first base.
Becker’s teammate at Rice, William Burbank, is also on the roster for the Lumberjacks.
Like Becker, Burbank is also from Texas and was rated as one of the top 100 players in the state.
In High School, Burbank was the teams starting shortstop and was rated in the top 180 shortstops in the nation.
Burbank was also used at second base and as a right-handed pitcher.
In just two days, Saturday, June 5th, the Lumberjacks kick off their 2021 season on the road against the Charlottesville Tom Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm.
Becker and Burbank will have their first home games at Casey Field the following day on Sunday, June 6th against Purcellville Cannons. They are scheduled for a double header that day as the first game has a start time of 5:30pm.
A special thank you to Rice University for the photos of Becker.
