April 9 Hearings
Matthew Blake Knighton, Covington, pled guilty to possession of a cell phone by a prisoner.
The offense date was July 27, 2011.
Knighton was sentenced to eight months in jail and assessed $1,061.50 costs.
John Woodson Jr., Covington, pled guilty to obtaining $200 or less through false pretenses.
The offense date was Aug. 19, 2009.
Woodson was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, and $734.84 costs. He was placed on unsupervised probation for one year.
Corderro Diaz Snead, Covington, entered an Alford plea to possession of a gun after being convicted of a non-violent felony.
The offense date was Aug. 23, 2010.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years, six months suspended, and assessed $1,137.50 costs. Following release from custody, Snead will be placed on three years supervised probation.
Shannon Louise Honaker, Covington, pled guilty to possession of a Schedule III drug with intent to distribute and possession of a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute.
The offense dates were April 12 and April 21, 2011.
She was sentenced to six years in prison with five years suspended. Following release from custody, Honaker will be placed on three years supervised probation. The court assessed $2,045.45 costs and ordered Honaker to pay $280 restitution. Her driver’s license was suspended for six months.
Earl Elmore Roles III, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to carrying a concealed weapon.
The offense date was Nov. 28, 2011.
Roles had appealed the case from Alleghany County General District Court.
He was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended, and placed on unsupervised probation for one year.
Roles entered a guilty plea to the charge of obstruction of justice without force.
The offense date was Nov. 28, 2011. Roles was originally charged with assault and battery of a police officer.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with 10 months suspended. The court assessed $372 costs.
Kyle Delyn Lewis, Covington , pled guilty to two counts of possessing a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute.
The offense date was May 28, 2011.
Lewis was sentenced to 10 years in prison, suspended, and placed on supervised probation for four years. He was assessed $2,618 costs and ordered to pay $685 restitution. Lewis’ driver’s license was suspended for six months.
Mark Edward Kimberlin, Covington, was sentenced on a charge of malicious wounding.
The offense date was March 29, 2011.
Kimberlin was convicted of the offense Nov. 10, 2011. He had pled not guilty.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 11 years, eight months suspended. Following release from custody, Kimberlin will be placed on supervised probation for five years. The court assessed $420 costs.
Kenneth Robert Phillips Jr., Covington, was found guilty of violating terms of probation after being convicted of a felony.
The offense date was Nov. 2, 2011.
The court revoked Phillips’ probation and sentenced him to one year, six months in prison. He was assessed $742 costs.
April 19 Hearings
Neal Stapleton Nicely, Covington, pled guilty to driving while intoxicated – first offense.
The offense date was July 31, 2011.
Nicely was credited for time served and sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended. He was fined $250 and $200 costs. Nicely was placed on unsupervised probation for one year.
His driver’s license was suspended for 12 months. The court approved the issuance of a restricted driver’s license that will expire April 18, 2013. Nicely was ordered to complete the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program.
James C. Armentrout, Covington, pled guilty to trespassing on posted property to hunt.
The offense date was Dec. 6, 2011. Armentrout had appealed the case from General District Court.
Armentrout was sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended, and fined $50. The court also assessed $161 costs. Armentrout was placed on unsupervised probation for two years.
Charlie L. Nelson, Ballengee, W.Va., was found guilty of two counts of trespassing on posted property to hunt.
The offense date was Dec. 6, 2011. Nelson had appealed the cases from General District Court. The appeal was withdrawn.
He was fined $100 and assessed $261 costs.
Bobby H. Branson, Salem, was found guilty of two counts of trespassing on posted property to hunt.

April 20 Hearings
James Roosevelt Winston Jr., Clifton Forge, was charged with parking in a handicap zone.
The offense date was Oct. 23, 2011. Winston appealed the case from General District Court.
The charge was dismissed by the Circuit Court.
Jason Brandon Esque, Fincastle was found guilty of driving on a suspended license.
The offense date was Jan. 5, 2012. Esque had appealed the case from General District Court. The appeal was withdrawn.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, with nine months suspended. The court assessed $396 costs and suspended Esque’s license for 90 days.
Greg Stewart, Cincinnati, Ohio, was tried in absentia on a charge of driving without a license.
The offense date was Nov. 13, 2011. Stewart had appealed the case from General District Court.
He was found guilty and fined $250. The court assessed $196 costs and suspended his driver’s license for 90 days.
Shaub Bey, Richmond, was found guilty of reckless driving-speeding at 114 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.
The offense date was Jan. 26, 2012. Bey appealed the case from General District Court. He entered a plea of not guilty at the appeal hearing.
The court found him guilty of the offense and fined him $1,000 with $506 costs assessed. His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. The court approved the issuance of a restricted driver’s license what will expire July 18, 2012.
April 24 Hearings
Christie Newcomb Boyd, Iron Gate, was sentenced on charges of forgery and uttering.
The offense date was Dec. 19, 2005.
Boyd pleaded no contest to the charges Jan. 23, 2012, with sentencing deferred by the court.
Boyd was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 15 years suspended. Following release from custody, she will be placed on supervised probation for two years. The court assessed $815 costs.
Joseph Michael Sammons Sr., Clifton Forge, pled guilty to possession of a firearm within 10 years of being convicted of a non-violent felony and receiving a stolen firearm/aiding in the concealing of a stolen firearm.
The offense date was Aug. 20, 2011.
Sammons was sentenced to four years in prison, suspended, and placed on three years supervised probation. He was assessed $1,037.22 court costs.
Michael Joseph Caldwell, Clifton Forge, pled guilty to possession of a firearm within 10 years of being convicted of a non-violent felony and larceny of a firearm.
The offense date was Aug. 20, 2011.
Caldwell was sentenced to eight years in prison, with five years, six months suspended.
Following release from custody, he will be placed on three years supervised probation. Caldwell was assessed $2,021.50 costs.
Dennis Scott Wolfe, Selma, pled no contest to three counts of brandishing a firearm.
The offense date was May 15, 2011. Wolfe had appealed the cases from General District Court.
The Circuit Court took the cases under advisement and placed Wolfe on unsupervised probation for two years.
April 25 Hearings
Amber D. Lipes, Hot Springs, pled no contest to two counts of welfare fraud.
The offense dates were Feb. 4, 2011, and July 26, 2011.
The court took the charges under advisement and placed Lipes on unsupervised probation for two years. She was ordered to pay $6,012 restitution.
Krystal Meadows, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., pled guilty to two counts of possession of a Schedule III drug with intent to distribute and two counts of possession of a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute.
The offense dates were April 12, 2011; April 21, 2011; and April 27, 2011.
Meadows was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with 11 years suspended. She will be placed on three years supervised probation following release from custody. The court assessed $2,675 costs and ordered Meadows to pay $682.50 restitution.
Her driver’s license will be suspended for six months.
Thomas Lynwood Combs, Clifton Forge, was found not guilty of destruction of property/damage to a memorial totaling less than $1,000.
Combs was indicted on the charge Oct. 11, 2011, by a grand jury. The alleged offense occurred Nov. 18, 2010.
Maurice Rashee Flint, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., was found guilty of driving while his license was suspended.
The offense date was Feb. 11, 2012. Flint had appealed the case from General District Court.
Flint was sentenced to nine months in jail and assessed $175.10 costs.
