Dear Editor,
In a letter written by Margaret Stapleton of Clifton Forge published on Oct. 7, she makes assumptions and presents statements which are flawed based on her misunderstanding and lack of comprehension of the agenda I have promised to pursue in the 2012 session of the General Assembly.
The term “Constitutionalists” as I claim it, simply means one who makes a strict literal interpretation and application of our written constitution whose purpose is to enumerate powers, define, limit, restrict and control government.
My proposed constitutional amendment would not destroy our government but would allow the state legislatures, using the authority given them by “we the people,” to correct all of the unconstitutional legislation imposed upon “We the People” by the Congress and the courts. We are “people” who are controlled by the “elite,” who simply ignore the constitution.
My agenda will place the burden of responsibility upon “we the people” to be eternally vigilant in controlling their local district state representatives, who in turn will control the senator, who in turn will control government. This process is known as a “republic” where “we the people” can control if we so choose.
Please Ms. Stapleton, I ask that you express your views based upon comprehension, understanding and logic rather than bias opinions based upon socialist ideology.
Respectfully,
Jerry R. Johnson
