First Baptist Church, 337 S. Lexington Ave., Covington, will hold a pre-18th pastoral anniversary service for the Rev. Dr. Willie L. Cannon Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Dwight O. Steele of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Roanoke.
Steele has been the pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church for 25 years.
He has earned a Doctor of Divinity from Virginia University of Lynchburg, School of Religion Virginia Seminary.
Rev. Steele has also studied mortuary science at John Tyler Community College.
He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Serenity Funeral Homes in Clifton Forge, Roanoke, and Portsmouth.
Rev. Steele is a member and director of music for the Valley Baptist Association, the Virginia Baptist State Convention, and the Evangelist Board of the Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Rev. Steele’s ministries, just to name a few, include a 24-hour Dial-A-Prayer at (540) 342-5867, a jail ministry at the Roanoke City Jail and Botetourt Correctional Facility, a handicap van ministry, a radio ministry on WKBA 1550, and a television ministry on Cox Cable Television Channel 78.
Rev. Steele is married to the former Ms. Connie Bullock of Chesapeake. They are the proud parents of two sons, Dwight, Jr. and Dwone O’ Neal Steele.
