The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly Thanksgiving Day stabbing.
Nita Bell Forbes, 31, of 512 W. Hemlock St. in Covington, was found dead in a local motel Thursday evening.
Her body was found after police were called to the Holiday Inn Express, on Caryle Street east of Covington, at approximately 5:30 p.m. to investigate a reported stabbing.
A front-desk clerk called police to report that a man had been found with stab wounds.
After police arrived, they found Forbes’ body in a motel room bathroom. A man, who is being treated as a suspect in the woman’s death, was also found stabbed. He was taken to LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany and later transported by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The man’s name was not being released by police this morning. The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office had initiated the process of charging him with second-degree murder Thursday night.
“He’s definitely a suspect, a person of interest,” Sheriff Kevin Hall said this morning. “I don’t know if the arrest warrant was served since they flew him to Roanoke last night.”
The Covington Police Department and Virginia State Police assisted the sheriff’s office at the crime scene.
