COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Middle School boys soccer team took to their home field on Thursday evening with determination but ultimately fell short against a strong Lylburn Downing side, finishing with a 3-1 loss.

Despite the final score, the Cougars showed grit and flashes of skill throughout the match. Tanner Kenny found the back of the net midway through the second half, putting Covington on the board with a well-placed strike. The goal came off a clean assist from teammate Player Altizer, who delivered a sharp pass that set Kenny up perfectly.

In goal, Covington split time between Sam Nickell and Lucas Tidd-Whiting, both of whom made key stops to keep the game competitive. Nickell tallied four saves in the first half, while Tidd-Whiting added two more in the second.

The Cougars last home game of the season will be played on Monday April 28th, when they host Fishwick Middle School.
