GREENVILLE – The Bath County boys basketball team led the host Gladiators 26-21 at halftime Wednesday, but could not hold on as they fell to Riverheads, 64-58.

Aaron Newmarker paced the Chargers with 19 points, while Owen Fry added 10. Thomas Shrader added seven, Ryan Plecker had six and Xavier Smothers chipped in five. Jonah Ford and Brandon Via scored four each and Matt Quantz rounded out the BC scoring with three points.

Cody Smith led Riverheads with 22 points.

“We’re getting closer,” said Bath County coach Steve Shaver. “We just couldn’t put it away in the second half.

We trailed by 12 heading into the fourth quarter and was able to cut it to two, but we just couldn’t get over the hump.”

Bath County (0-4) will be back in action Monday at December 19 at 6 p.m. at Pocahontas, W.Va.
