Kathleen Ogden Byers, a resident of Highland House in Clifton Forge since 2002, celebrated her 108th birthday on February 1 with a party thrown for her by Mountain Regional Hospice volunteers and employees and Highland House employees.
She was born February 1, 1905 in Coleman Falls and moved to Covington in 1929.
She married Peter Byers Sr. in 1931, and was married to him until he passed away in 1977.
She worked at the Rayon plant and Covington Grocery until her son Peter was born.
She also has three grandsons, Kevin, Peter and Gary.
Mrs. Byers is a life member of the Jackson River Garden Club and active in Christ United Methodist Church.
She, along with her neighbor Mrs. Harold Miller, once won an award from the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs for their rock garden which was located in Rosedale.
