MeadWestvaco’s Covington mill has announced position changes that were internally announced in December 2011.
Willard Surgeon, Jr. accepted the position of foreman – No. 2 Paper Machine.
In this position, Surgeon is responsible for supervising the shift operations for the paper machine while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity. He will assist in finding solutions to immediate problems and work to prevent future failures.
Surgeon graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 1979.
He joined MWV in May 1995 on the Extra Board.
Surgeon transferred to the General Utility department as a laborer in 1996 and then to No. 5 Paper Machine in 1997 as a utility assistant. In 1998, he transferred back to the General Utility department as a laborer.
From 1999 – 2005, Surgeon advanced through the procession from fourth assistant to second assistant on No. 5 Paper Machine. In 2005, he joined No. 2 Paper Machine as a utility assistant and in May 2006, he advanced to the position of fourth assistant.
Surgeon transferred to Quality Assurance as an inspector in 2008.
Mark Taylor accepted the position of plant manager at the Low Moor Converting Plant.
In this position, Taylor is responsible for strategic and tactical management of the plant.
Taylor received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., and an M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Taylor joined MWV in 1984 as a senior engineer at the Covington Research Lab. In 1987, he was promoted to research group leader.
Taylor took on the role of research coordinator in 1994 and was responsible for research activities in Bleached Board, Consumer Packaging, and Kraft areas. He also served as technical manager for Packaging Research based in Laurel, Md., from 2001 – 2002, where he provided new product development support for uncoated and coated products, along with converting process improvement for Consumer Packaging.
In 2002, Taylor joined the Covington mill as technical director. He was promoted to the Office of Business Excellence manager in 2009 while still maintaining his role as technical director.
Terra Broce-Brookman accepted the position of payroll administrator.
In this position, Broce-Brookman will be responsible for payroll administration and schedule coordination.
Broce-Brookman received an A.A.S. degree in Administrative Support Technology from DSLCC in 2005 and an A.A.S. degree in Business Administration in 2008 from DSLCC. She worked as an administrative assistant at MWV through Manpower from May 2006 – November 2011.
Brian Gingerich accepted the position of sawmill chip, sawdust, and bark procurement supervisor in the Wood department.
In this position, he is responsible for purchasing sawmill secondary products for the mill and biomass boiler. He is also responsible for purchasing sawdust for the Carbon department.
Gingerich received his B.S. degree in Forest Resources Management in 1980 from West Virginia University. He also received an A.A.S. degree in Pulp and Paper Technology from DSLCC.
Gingerich began his career with MWV in 1979 as a co-op student, working for the company logging crew. He accepted a position at the Gauley Woodyard in Rupert, W.Va., as a second-shift wood buyer in 1980. He was promoted to procurement forester at the Highland Woodyard in Monterey in 1981.
Gingerich worked as the Covington local district senior forester from 1985 – 1995, when he accepted the position of chip buyer.
