Stop Soldier Suicide (SSS) is a veteran-founded, national nonprofit organization with an intense, single-minded focus on solving the issue of suicide among U.S. veterans and service members.
SSS’s work centers on two primary lines of effort:
ROGER Wellness Service – Our clinical program provides direct, one-to-one, suicide-specific care that saves lives today.
Black Box Project – A research initiative developing predictive and precision tools to identify suicide risk, with a focus on broad public health impact, widespread reach, and large-scale survival outcomes.
Together, these initiatives allow SSS to intervene in the moment and advance the field toward ending military suicide.
The Staggering Reality of Military Suicide
The problem of suicide within the military community is staggering:
- More than 6,400 U.S. veterans and service members die by suicide annually.
- Veterans are 58% more likely to die by suicide than non-veterans.
- Military suicide has claimed more lives than many major military conflicts, including World War I, the Vietnam War, and the Global War on Terror.
The vision is clear: a nation where veterans and service members face no greater risk of suicide than any other American.
How Stop Soldier Suicide is Making a Difference
Stop Soldier Suicide is working to address these statistics through two primary initiatives:
- ROGER Wellness Service: SSS provides suicide-specific clinical care to veterans and service members nationwide.
- Black Box Project: SSS is pioneering ways to identify suicide risk earlier and more precisely, turning loss into legacy and data into hope.
We Need Your Help in This Fight
Supporters help advance this mission in many ways, including donating, hosting fundraising events, joining peer-to-peer challenges, becoming corporate partners, and spreading awareness of the resources available to veterans and service members.
Through the generosity and advocacy of supporters across the country, Stop Soldier Suicide can answer the call when veterans and service members need support most.
If you are a veteran or service member who may be struggling, or if you know someone who is, help is available. Visit GoRoger.org/Get-Help or call 833-MY-ROGER (833-697-6437).
The Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033 Auxiliary recently established a Suicide Prevention Awareness Committee to help bring information and support to local veterans who need assistance. Many organizations are available to help and Stop Soldier Suicide is one of them.
