Late Tuesday night, the Virginia Beach Fire Department was dispatched to the Virginia Aquarium’s Darden Marine Animal Conservation Center (DMACC) after a fire and significant amount of smoke set off the fire alarms. SALEM, Va. (VR) – Rainy conditions greeted Alleghany and Covington Middle School runners Saturday at the ECE Fast Times Festival in Salem, but the weather did little to slow the local runners.

Alleghany’s girls finished seventh in the 500-meter race, led by Faith Barron, who placed 11th in 20:14.0. Maggie Hensley was 24th in 21:08.8, followed by Willow Morgan in 33rd at 21:34.8, Annebelle Williams in 41st at 22:08.0 and Madilyn Via in 57th at 22:52.5.

The Alleghany boys finished 10th, with Lincoln Rosales leading the way in 44th at 17:49.4. Cole Bowser followed in 45th at 17:50.3, Maddox Hale was 46th, Levi Bartley placed 60th in 18:26.7 and Braedan Lemons was 79th in 18:58.8.

Covington Middle’s girls were led by a third-place finish from Haley Jonas in 13:16.4. Kennedy Brown was fourth in 13:38.4, Claire McGraw sixth in 14:07.9, Camila Lopez seventh in 15:08.5 and Mariella Rosales eighth in 15:08.8.

The Covington Middle boys put together a strong showing, led by a first-place finish from Oliver Brown in 11:08.8. Graham Kenny was second in 11:20.6, Noah Dean third in 11:47.4, Price Thompson fourth in 12:05.6 and Jaxon Via fifth in 12:08.5.

Several local runners posted personal or season-best times during Saturday’s meet.
