STAUNTON, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany golf team finished fifth Monday in the Shenandoah District’s third major 18-hole match of the season at Ingleside Golf Course.
The Cougars finished with a team score of 366 in a field that included all nine Shenandoah District schools.
Jagger Rowland led Alleghany with an 81, finishing ninth individually. Jaxon Deem was next for the Cougars with an 89, followed by Gavin Randozzo at 97 and Sawyer Knighton at 99. Caleb Fisher carded a 106, while Sophie Knighton finished with a 107.
Waynesboro took the team title with a 319, edging Staunton at 325. Woodrow Wilson finished third at 329, while Fort Defiance placed fourth at 332.
Rockbridge followed Alleghany with a 339, while Riverheads shot 343. Buffalo Gap finished at 357 and Shenandoah recorded a 392.
Staunton’s Addison Brown posted the day’s lowest individual score with a 72. Rockbridge’s Davis Welsh followed at 75, while Fort Defiance’s Carter Bird and Woodrow Wilson’s Maddox Perry each shot 77.
Waynesboro was led by Berkely Gibb, who shot 78, with Noah Haynes at 79, Ryan Harlow at 80, Drew Matherly and Jack Blaylock at 83, and Ian Prilly at 82.
Staunton’s strong team performance included Brown’s 72, Brooks Doughty’s 84, Jace Dean’s 83, Logan Campbell’s 86, Cameron Boyle’s 87 and Ethan Herron’s 89.
Fort Defiance was led by Bird’s 77 and Canon Miller’s 80. Nic Wilfong shot 87, Kingston Cook 88, Hunter Hamer 92 and Conner Campbell 95.
Woodrow Wilson’s top four were Perry at 77, Wil Eckstrom and Tyson Morris at 83, and Beayden Chandler at 89.
Rockbridge had Welsh at 75, Parker Flint at 85, Tanner Hickman at 88, Fin Looney at 91, Brody Grue at 94 and Hendrick Colvin at 103.
Riverheads was led by Hunter Campbell with a 78, followed by Luke Childress at 85, Asher Falls at 89, Benny Crawford at 91, Jackson Berksstresser at 107 and Jake Argenbright at 110.
Buffalo Gap’s scores included Trevor Snyder at 86, Braden Reed at 89, Will Little at 90, Brady Richie at 92, Wyatt Linsday at 98 and Ryland Danner at 99.
The Shenandoah District holds four of these major 18-hole competitions during the season, with all nine district teams competing. The first was held at Gypsy Hill, followed by the second at The Homestead. The fourth and final Big Four match is scheduled for September 21, at Staunton Country Club
