STAUNTON, Va. (VR) – The following is a list of maintenance and construction work that may affect traffic in the VDOT Staunton District, which consists of 11 counties in the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands.
Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. When traveling through a work zone, use extreme caution and be alert for lane closures and traffic-pattern changes.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
INTERSTATE 64
*NEW* Mile marker 25 to 26, eastbound and westbound – Right lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
*NEW* Mile marker 35 to 37, eastbound and westbound – Right lane closures for bridge inspection, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
PRIMARY ROADS
*UPDATE* Route 60 (West Ridgeway Street/Main Street) – Eastbound shoulder closures for mowing between Route 696 (Selma-Low Moor Road) and Clifton Forge western town limits, 7 a.m. to noon p.m. Friday.
Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) – Signalized traffic control for bridge replacement between Route 655 (Moss Run Road) and Route 717 (Boone Road) through June 2028.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

HIGHLAND COUNTY
PRIMARY ROADS
Route 220 (Potomac River Road) – Temporary traffic signal in operation 24/7 between Route 632 (The Pines Road) and Route 629 (Strait Creek Road) for Strait Creek bridge replacement. Estimated completion August 2027.
*NEW* Route 250 (Mountain Turnpike) – Temporary lane closures in both directions between the West Virginia state line and Route 600 (Upper Back Creek Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., September 14 through September 23.

Route 640 (Blue Grass Valley Road) – Traffic diversion in place 24/7 just south of Route 642 (Laurel Fork Road) for bridge replacement through November 30.

AUGUSTA COUNTY
INTERSTATE 64
Mile marker 91 to 87, westbound – Shoulder closures for tree removal, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 25.
*NEW* Exit 96, westbound – Shoulder closures for pipe installations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 208 to 210, northbound – Right shoulder closures for tree removal, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 25.
*NEW* Mile marker 213 to 235, northbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Motorists should follow posted detour. Single-lane traffic on exit 221 southbound ramp to I-64 East 24/7. Shoulder closures and travel lane shifts northbound and southbound 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project with estimated completion in summer 2027. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
Mile marker 225 to 235, northbound and southbound – Brief slow-roll closures (rolling roadblocks) for overhead utility work between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. Sunday, September 13.
Mile marker 225 to 234, northbound – Overnight mobile right lane closures for pavement marking, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the night of September 29.
Mile marker 231 to 234, northbound – Right shoulder closures for tree removal, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 25.
*UPDATE* Mile marker 234 to 237, northbound and southbound – Northbound overnight left lane closures between mile marker 235 to 237 for barrier relocation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights. Left shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are for construction of I-81 truck-climbing lanes with estimated completion of late 2027.

*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Westbound shoulder closures for traffic engineering between the junction with Interstate 81 and Route 11 (Lee Jackson Highway), 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.
*NEW* Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Slow roll traffic control between Route 613 (Old Greenville Road) interchange and Route 11 (Lee Highway) interchange for utility work, 12 midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Route 262 (Woodrow Wilson Parkway) – Overnight flagger traffic control for paving between Route 11 (Commerce Road/Lee-Jackson Highway) and Route 250 (Churchville Avenue) including interchange ramps, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the night of October 1.
*NEW* Route 358 (Woodrow Wilson Avenue) – Shoulder closures between Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) and Service Route 9695 for work related to lane construction, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
