COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany took the first half of its home-and-away golf competition with Bath County, posting a team score of 174 to the Chargers’ 190.
Jagger Rowland led the Cougars with a 41, tying Bath County’s Akio Long for the low round of the match. Gavin Randozzo and Jaxon Deem each carded 42s, with Sawyer Knighton shooting 49 to complete Alleghany’s four-counting scores.
Caleb Fisher finished with a 51, while Sophia Knighton shot 60.
Bath County’s Long led the Chargers with a 41, followed by Atticus Stauffer with a 45 and Draven Whitmore with a 49. Michael Keyes shot 55, with Mason Henderson at 58 and Zachariah Foster at 61.
Rowland also won the longest-drive competition on No. 2, while Deem took closest to the pin on No. 7.
The match provided an opportunity for both programs to give their entire teams competitive experience. Alleghany played all 16 of its golfers, while Bath County played all 11. The additional five threesomes each featured two Alleghany golfers and one Bath County golfer.
The second half of the home-and-away series is scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Old Course at The Homestead.
