PHILADELPHIA – Taking their talents to the next level, four Virginia Tech baseball student-athletes were selected during the 2026 MLB Draft, which ran from July 11 to July 12 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during MLB All-Star Week festivities (hosted by the Philadelphia Phillies).

Junior right-handed pitcher Brett Renfrow was taken during Saturday’s Competitive Balance B round – an extension of the second round – by the Minnesota Twins at No. 74 overall. Historically, Renfrow became Virginia Tech’s seventh highest pitcher to be drafted all-time.

On Sunday, senior right-handed pitcher Luke Craytor was chosen during the ninth round at No. 255 overall by the Chicago White Sox. Senior right-handed pitcher Griffin Stieg followed during the 13th round at No. 378 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates before junior left-handed pitcher Madden Clement came off the board during the 15th round at No. 449 overall by the Kansas City Royals.

Virginia Tech’s 2026 MLB Draft class marks the program’s sixth consecutive during which four or more student-athletes have been selected. The Hokies’ count of four pitchers ties their highest output since 2013.

Under the leadership of head coach John Szefc, Virginia Tech has now produced 33 MLB Draft prospects (totaling 34 picks), including 16 that have been chosen during the opening 10 rounds.
