Phyllis Jean J Bowen Tingler

Phyllis Jean J Bowen Tingler, age 81, of New Castle, died Thursday, June 25, 2026, at her residence.

She was born, December 23, 1944, in Laurel, Maryland, and was preceded in death by her parents, the late Charles Bowen and Annie Brookman Bowen; a son, Paul Hinkle, two sisters, Bertha Elmore, Arletta Hinkle, three brothers, Rodney Bowen, Jerry Bowen, and Leon Bowen.

For many years Phyllis was employed at Kountry Korner as a clerk. During her past time, she enjoyed working in her yard, planting beautiful flowers, cooking for the family that she adored and loved.

Surviving her loss is her husband, Virgil J. Tingler of New Castle; three daughters, Lisa Osborne of Covington, Debbie (Jamey) Smith of Covington, Kathy Hinkle of Covington, three sons, Robert Hinkle of Covington, Gary (Melissa) Hinkle of Covington, Steven (Cornelia) Tingler of Salem; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Skippy) Morson of New Castle; three brothers, Wayne Bowen of Covington, Albine (Carol) Bowen of Maryland, Gary (Helen) Bowen of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Joan (David) Wright of New Castle; brother-in-law, Donald (Mary) Tingler of Covington, a daughter-in-law, Kathrine Hickson; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 2:00PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. David Brown officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00PM.

Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Craig County Rescue Squad, 258 Paint Bank Road, New Castle, VA 24127.
