COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The Covington Lumberjacks scored early and backed it with strong pitching to defeat Charlottesville 6-1 on Tuesday night.

Covington plated two runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Lumberjacks added a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and another in the seventh while holding Charlottesville to a lone run in the fifth.

The Lumberjacks finished with 11 hits. Luis Acosta led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Frankie Clark was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored twice. Cross Yarborough drove in two runs, while Zach Doorlag went 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Thomas Fratto added an RBI hit.

Darrius Brown finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and two stolen bases, while Luca Mendez scored a run and reached base twice on walks. Jacob Smith earned the win after allowing one run on three hits over five innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked four.

Devin Grazzal worked 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Eli Porter tossed 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out one, while Quindon Wright closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning and one strikeout.
