Lowman, Heighter Power Alleghany Girls; Christian Leads Boys

WAYNESBORO, Va. (VR) – Alleghany’s girls and boys track teams turned in a strong overall performance on Thursday, piling up event victories across the track and field events.

The girls were led by another dominant day from Ja’kara Heighter, who swept the sprint events with wins in the 100-meter dash in 12.49 and the 200-meter dash in 27.12. Jaylin Robinson added a fifth-place finish in the 100 at 13.46, while Cambria Ransom placed third in the 200 with a 28.11. Willow Morgan won the 400-meter run in 1:04.17 and later added a third-place finish in the 800 at 2:40.67. Leigha Byers placed third in the 400 in 1:08.55.

Distance events were another strength for the Cougars. Kiera Lowman won the 800-meter run in 2:24.90 and captured the 1600-meter title in 5:12.72. Maggie Hensley was second in the 1600 with a 5:50.91 and fourth in the 800 at 2:45.27, while Alexandra Downs finished fifth in the 1600 in 6:18.26. In the 3200-meter run, Faith Barron claimed first place in 12:48.31. Adrienne Downs was second in 14:40.21 and Avery Spinks finished third in 14:40.69.

Alleghany also excelled in the hurdle events. Brooklyn Connor won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.82 and later placed third in the 300 hurdles at 56.33. Zamya Hayslett finished third in the 100 hurdles in 21.51, just ahead of Taylor Jenkins in fourth at 21.53. Catie Lipes added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles in 1:01.43.

The girls relay teams also posted strong results, winning the 4×100 relay in 51.13 and the 4×400 relay in 4:38.54 while placing second in the 4×800 relay at 12:10.68.

In field events, Elin Heck cleared 4-8 for second in the high jump, while Morgan finished fifth at 4-4. Heighter added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault at 7-6, and Chloe Warlitner took third in the discus with a throw of 78-9.

For the boys, Miles Christian led the sprint events with a win in the 200-meter dash in 22.84 and a runner-up finish in the 100 at 11.39. Daimonie Clayton placed third in the 100 in 11.64. Maddox Wickline won the 400-meter run in 52.50. Trevor Jonas was third in the event in 56.74 and later placed fifth in the 800 at 2:29.66. Kenton Kirby finished fifth in the 400 in 58.31.

In distance races, Evan Bishop placed second in the 1600-meter run with a 4:49.10, while Levi Bartley took fourth in the 1600 at 5:02.90 and second in the 3200 in 11:50.65. Nolan Rosales finished third in the 3200 with a 12:07.22.

The boys relay teams added a second-place finish in the 4×100 relay in 45.19 and a win in the 4×400 relay at 3:41.79.

In field events, JeSean Riddick cleared 5-8 in the high jump. Jayden Richmond placed third in the long jump at 19-8.75. Kirby Brown finished second in the pole vault at 10-6, while Jacob Simmons was fifth at 7-6. Sarge Persinger closed out the meet with a win in the shot put after a throw of 43-3.
