COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Alleghany used a big day at the plate from Brady May and strong pitching to take down Staunton Varsity Storm, 6-1.

Alleghany broke the game open in the third. May went the other way for a bases-clearing double, driving in Graham Brewster, Kai Rowland, and Jalen Raether for a 3-0 lead. The Cougars added two more in the fifth on May’s second double, finishing his night 2-for-3 with five RBIs.

Rowland reached multiple times, scored, and added an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Raether finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, and a walk. Tucker Phillips and Brycen Griffith each added hits as Alleghany produced six runs on six-plus hits and drew multiple walks.

On the mound, Trey Cook controlled the early innings. He worked four scoreless frames, allowing three hits while stranding runners in scoring position in the second and third. Cook recorded multiple strikeouts and kept Staunton off balance.

Buddy Leisure-White went two innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit with three walks. Benjamin Skidmore closed it out, striking out two in a scoreless seventh.
