BLACKSBURG, Va. (VR) – Covington Middle School’s girls track team stacked points across events to secure a second-place team finish with 27 points.
Journee Tate led the sprint group, placing third in the 100 meters (13.79) and adding a third-place finish in the triple jump (28-09.25). Haven Nanney took seventh in the 100 (14.42) and cleared 4-04 to tie for fifth in the high jump, while Kinley Uzzell followed close behind in both events, finishing eighth in the 100 (14.44) and tying for fifth in the high jump.
The 4×100 relay team delivered a second-place finish in 54.65, one of the team’s top scoring efforts on the track.
In distance events, Alexa Cooper placed fifth in the 1600 (6:32.35) and added a 10th-place finish in the 800 (3:08.40). Daisy Hodges took sixth in the 1600 (6:42.08), and Kaylee Snook finished 10th (7:17.02).
Danica Simon placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (58.50) and added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (27-03.25). Anabelle Williams followed in eighth (1:02.60).
In the 200 meters, Gwen Lewis led with a seventh-place finish (31.56), while Ava Ledford took ninth (32.38).
Covington’s 4×400 teams added depth, with Team A placing fourth (5:07.36) and Team B finishing fifth (5:50.09).
In the field events, Mariah Skidmore cleared 4-06 to take third in the high jump. Aubrey Byer finished ninth (4-04). Tate also contributed in the long jump with a third-place mark of 13-04.75, while Taniya Peterson placed eighth (11-11.25).
The throws unit delivered key points. Chloe Goode placed second in shot put (24-07.00), and Remmy Anderson followed in third (23-06). Anderson highlighted the meet with a first-place finish in discus (61-00), Covington’s lone event win.
Covington Middle School’s boys track team turned in a balanced performance across events, finishing third overall with 24.5 points.
Graham Kenny led the distance group with a second-place finish in the 1600 meters (5:31.55) and added a seventh-place run in the 800 (2:38.22). Aidyn Peters paced the sprints, taking fourth in the 100 meters (13.19) and clearing 4-08 to place fourth in the high jump.
The relay teams delivered key points. The 4×100 placed second in 54.65, and the 4×400 added another runner-up finish in 4:32.02.
Tye Jarvis had a strong all-around meet, finishing second in the 300-meter hurdles (52.95) and matching that result in the high jump (5-00). Ryan Bishop took sixth in the 400 (1:03.44) and added a 10th-place finish in the 200 (28.98), while Konnor Kirby followed closely in seventh in the 400 (1:03.46). Ethan Townsend placed eighth in the 200 (28.43).
In the field events, Izaike O’Connor highlighted the meet with a first-place throw in discus (108-01). Steven Leigh Jr added a third-place finish in shot put (35-09.50) and took fourth in discus (78-09). Joshua Clayton placed fifth in shot put (29-10.50) and ninth in discus (63-06), while Hunter Osborne (seventh, 26-05.00) and Andrew Stanforth (ninth, 25-01.00) added depth in the shot.
Kendall Lemons finished ninth in the triple jump (28-07.25).
