Garry Faye Mays

 

Garry Faye Mays, age 76, of Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, March 28, 2026 at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany, Low Moor, Virginia.

He was born April 25, 1949 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Henry Reid Mays and Malvina Reynolds Mays. He was a retired train conductor for CSX Transportation for 30 years. He attended Lone Star Advent Christian Church and was an avid fan of the University of Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald Mays, Larry Mays and Bill Mays; two sisters, Imogene Turner and Gathleen Blankenship.

Garry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dreama Morgan Mays of Clifton Forge; three sons, Gregory Alan Mays (Connie) and Garry Reid Mays (Melissa), both of Harrisonburg, and Jeff Harman (Stephanie) of Clifton Forge; three daughters, Vicky Sue Wooding (Bruce) of Texas, Christy Harmon of Timberville and Neva Persinger (Kevin) of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Doris Curtis and Debbie Nicely; eight grandchildren, Evan Mays, Kadie King, Laura Bruce (Sabrina), Tanner Harmon, Maddie Harmon, Ethan Persinger (Abby), Maggie Persinger, and Victoria Mathern; a great grandson, Jack King; and a number nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
