Nancy Carol Tate Hodges, age 76, of 1041 Cliftwood Circle, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, February 17, 2019 at her residence.
She was born March 30, 1942 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Sherman Andrew and Janice Marie Blake Tate Carte.
As a young adult Nancy was a secretary before becoming a homemaker and mother.  She was an active member of the Clifton Forge Baptist Church and was the first deaconess of the church. She loved her family; getting together often, telling stories, and sharing laughter. She especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren. She had the gift of hospitality, enjoyed helping others, liked to travel and to send letters, notes, and cards.  She was an avid Hokie fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Tate, and a sister, Patricia Tate Bennett.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Reede “Chuck” Hodges of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Laura Anne Hodges Hewitt and husband Russ of Raleigh, NC; a son, Mark Andrew Hodges of Dayton; a brother, Gary Tate of Easley, SC; a sister-in-law, Karen Tate of Roanoke; three special grandchildren, Andrew Reede “Drew” Hodges, Kristen Elizabeth Hodges, and Will Hewitt; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Clifton Forge Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Harvey officiating.  Interment will take place on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM In Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will visit with friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
Nicely Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Baptist Church, P.O. Box 121, Clifton Forge, VA  24422, to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA  24422, or to the American Diabetes Association.
