Iva (Sue) Potter
Mrs. Iva (Sue) Madeline Peters Potter, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Covington, died on Monday, January 26, 2026 at her residence. She was married to her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Andrew Potter, who preceded her in death in 2025.
Mrs. Potter was born March 21, 1942 in Hollidaysburg, PA, the daughter of the late Marian Peters. In 1957, Sue moved to this area when she was in her mid-teens. She graduated from Covington High School before continuing her education at Radford University where she received her degree in
nursing. Mrs. Potter was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and volunteered her time and support to the church for a number of years. She was also a member of the American Nursing Association as well as a member of the Covington Moose Lodge #610 L.O.O.M.
Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she always loved taking care of people. She opened her heart and home to many children and friends over the years. She loved hosting the “Parrish Court Gang” at her home there as well as many have had memories in the basement of their house on Bethany Avenue or the backyard pool.
Mrs. Potter is survived by a son, William Lacy Potter and significant other, Tammy of Lewisburg, WV; a daughter, Kim Potter Lee and husband, Kevin of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lacy Potter Law and husband, Drew, Hanah Lee Healy and husband, Michael and Dustin Christopher Lee and wife, Emily; great grandchildren, Teagan Lacy, Laeland James, Josiah Lee, Noah Michael, Alex, Wyatt and Lukas; a sister, Marian (Chucky) Gibson of Richmond; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by a beloved daughter-in-law, Susan Carter Parker Potter; two brothers, Oscar Peters and John Peters; two sisters, Helen Benton Cale and Linda (Cookie) Watts; a niece who was like a daughter to her, Christine Etters;
and her beloved cat, Bandy.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 6, 2026, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
