FLOYD — The Floyd County Buffaloes completed an unbeaten regular season with a tight 5-4 boys tennis win over Alleghany Thursday.
Floyd County moved to 15-0 on the season, 9-0 in Three Rivers District play.
The Mountaineers completed a 10-6 regular season, 5-5 in the district.
The match was tied at 3-3 after singles competition before the Buffaloes won two of the doubles matches.
“I’m very proud of the guys for taking an undefeated team down to the wire,” said Alleghany coach Seth Davis. “At one point, we led 4-2.
“Even though we lost, I thought we played well,” Davis added. “Dominic (Trice) finished the regular season as the best player in the district, and Stone (Russell) and Logan (Robertson) had two great wins.
The Mountaineers now prepare for a Monday match-up with Northside in the Region III-D tournament.
“Our whole focus is Northside on Monday,” Davis concluded. “It should be a tight match, and we hope to see a lot of our fans out there.”
