RICHMOND, Va. (VR)— The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced its 2026 state holiday schedule to help customers plan visits throughout the year. Customers are encouraged to take advantage of online services, even when full-service DMV locations are closed.

DMV offices will be closed on the following days in 2026:

  • January 19: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • February 16: George Washington Day
  • May 25: Memorial Day
  • June 19: Juneteenth
  • July 3: Independence Day (Observed)
  • September 7: Labor Day
  • October 12: Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day
  • November 3: Election Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day (Observed)

Customers don’t have to wait for offices to reopen. Many services, including tag renewals, address changes, driver’s license or ID card renewals, in addition to dozens of other services, are available at dmv.virginia.gov. Most transactions can be completed in minutes, saving customers a trip to the DMV.

Customers are also encouraged to check the hours of their local DMV Select location, which may follow a different holiday schedule. DMV Select offices, mostly run by local governments, focus on vehicle-related transactions, such as registration renewals, title registrations, and license plates. For more information on DMV Select and to locate a DMV Select office, visit dmv.virginia.gov/locations/what-is-dmv-select.

The 2026 end-of-year holiday schedule will be announced at a later date.
