TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2026, AT 6:00 PM & REGULAR SESSION

SPECIAL OR EMERGENCY MEETINGS MAY BE CALLED PURSUANT TO VIRGINIA LAW AND THE CITY CHARTER.

Covington City Council and the Covington Planning Commission will hold a JOINT PUBLIC HEARING on TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of City Hall located at 333 W. Locust Street, Covington, Virginia. The Council’s regular meeting will follow at 6:30 PM. Council will go into a closed session following the conclusion of the work session.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2025:
6:00PM – START OF PUBLIC HEARING:

PUBLIC HEARING: Pursuant to Section 15.2-2204 (A) of the Code of Virginia.
The Public Hearing is to consider the rezoning request of Newco Inc. for property located on East Cherry Street, Covington, Virginia (24426). The request seeks to rezone Lots 5 and 6 of Block 43, and Lots 27, 28, and 29 of Block 44, from C-3 (General Business) to
M-1 (Light Industrial). The purpose of the request is to allow the property to be used as contractor laydown yards and for parking.
 Planning Commission – Call to Order & Attendance
 Applicant – Newco Inc.
o Citizen Comments for Applicant, Newco Inc.
o Planning Commission & City Council Questions to Applicant Newco Inc.
o Vote on Newco Inc’s Rezoning Application.
 Public Hearing Adjournment.

4. To consider and vote on Resolution R-25-40: Appropriation – National Opioid Settlement Recoveries in the amount of $14,480.66 (No City Match).

1. To consider and reappoint Mrs. Kathy G. Carson to the Alleghany Department of Social Services Board: Mrs. Carson’s term expires on
December 31, 2025.
