COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – The sound of sirens echoed through Covington neighborhoods Saturday afternoon, but there was no cause for alarm. Instead of responding to an emergency, the Covington Fire Department was carrying out a special mission straight from the North Pole: escorting Santa Claus on his annual visit through the city.
Fire trucks rolled through local streets as the jolly old man waved from his festive ride, bringing smiles and excitement to children and families who gathered to catch a glimpse of the Christmas Elf. Santa happily greeted young residents along the way, taking time to listen as some children proudly handed over updated, carefully edited Christmas lists.
This cherished tradition has become a highlight of the holiday season in the Alleghany Highlands, reminding the community why the area feels especially magical at Christmastime. The sight of Santa traveling alongside local firefighters reflects the strong sense of togetherness and generosity that defines the season.
Once Santa completes his neighborhood rounds, he will be transported back to the sports complex, where his sleigh awaits. From there, it’s back to the North Pole to prepare for his important journey on Christmas Eve.
The community extends a heartfelt thank you to the Covington Fire Department and the volunteers who make this annual event possible, helping spread holiday cheer and create lasting memories for local children.
